First Release (0.0.15)
The first alpha release is available here:
http://android.tonoli.co.za/TorrentFunnel-0.0.15.apk
Which forms the base for the application and includes the following:
- Managing sources (or RSS feeds if you will) of torrents.
- Managing search phrases, with full support for regular expression matches.
- A working background service to handle the periodic searching of sources. Will notify you in notification bar of results (as well as errors).
- Viewing and managing matches including:
- The ability to “open” a match. This will essentially try open the URL associated with the torrent, it may go to a web page or the actual torrent, depending on what the site chooses to do.
- The ability to “ignore” a match, removing it from the list of matches.
- The ability to limit the timescale of torrents you want (see Preferences)
- The ability to turn on and off sound notification on matches
- The ability to view a log of what’s happening.
- The ability to set timeouts on connections to sources.
- Current support only guaranteed on Android 1.5 (should work on later versions)
Please note that this is very much a work in progress (alpha) release for playing around with and getting feedback on. If you have any questions / suggestions /bugs post them here please.
These are the current known issues/dislikes (no need to tell me about these):
- The PayPal donation does not work because it’s pointing at the sandbox environment, will get this up when I have a proper API key from PayPal.
- You cannot “open” more than one match at a time, if you try this it will only open the first match.
- The help page is, well, non-existent. I may drop this entirely in lieu of this site, or link it straight to the Help page.
- The Adsense Advert scrolls (weird, can’t seem to get this to behave, will probably remove it outright).
- The log screen should show the log entries in descending order, and refresh automatically, and have filters, and make coffee while it’s at it!
- Need a “Select All” option on match screen.
- The “Disclaimer” needs to be cleaned up, it’s a generic one I found somewhere but I think it pretty much covers the basics.
You may find that some torrent sources do not “behave” correctly (give strange results, do not return proper results, give errors etc.). If you find one of these, please let me know the site details (link is sufficient) and the error you got (check the “Log”).
and finally, of course, please realize that you use this entirely at your own risk, I take no responsibility for what it does to your device / life / status as a free citizen. Remember also that the act of torrenting is not illegal, WHAT you torrent, however, can be; it’s just a tool, it can be used for good or bad purposes. For more info see this.
Have fun and remember, feedback is more than welcome…
This application works best with something that can process .torrent files already installed on your phone, look at products like TorrentFu, Transdroid or aBTC (a Bit Torrent Client for Android)
Dude this is a lame app…seriously. You’re cloning (and badly) what a myriad of apps out there already do.
Thanks for the feedback, but I looked and could not find something that did this for me on an android phone? All I found on the market was apps that allow you to manage torrents (add/remove etc) on a PC based torrent app (like uTorrent), which this purposefully does not do. I DID find a web based one that did the same as this but I wanted something on device.
If you could point me to something that can do this: search multiple torrent RSS feeds using RegEx strings and notify me when matches are found, and allow me to download the .torrent attached to the feed, then please forward me a link. I wrote this because I needed something like this and thought if I could use it perhaps someone else could too, however if I’m duplicating something out there (and badly as you say), then I may as well stop right now and move on to something else…
Thanks again for the feedback, looking forward to hearing from you…
Love it when people post insults with out substance. Must be a manager of some sorts. I recon this app is a neat idea and a great sandbox for learning the platform. If you going to insult what someone is doing at least provide grounds and ideas to improve it. UNLESS of course you are just jealous about the idea and are hoping your insults are going to stop the development of the idea. I always wonder if people would be so blunt and rude face to face. To the developer of the application, keep at it bud. To the guy throwing the insults, find a cliff and jump.
